Facilitation

A facilitator, with a particular expertise in peer-learning

I facilitate peer learning spaces where colleagues or peers across an organisation, network or sector learn together through each other's challenges, successes and expertise.

I also offer facilitation of team workshops, training and learning programmes for all types of organisations that align with my values.

How peer learning is different

It can be thematic (peers gathered around a topic) or role-based (peers learning through the challenges they meet in their work). One of the best-known methods I use is Action Learning, as well as being a practitioner in Lewis Deep Democracy, Time to Think, and Liberating Structures.

From training

The content in peer learning doesn't take the shape of PowerPoints, lectures or theory - it's in the challenges members bring to each session. But it's far from hands-off: I provide the structures, prompts and methods that make it safe and productive to learn from real, live challenges, and I hold the group so the thinking goes deeper than it would on its own.

From the Shift Circle programme

This isn't only for participation practitioners or organisations shifting decision-making to communities. It's for any organisation that values peer learning — for staff development and as an enabler of long-term culture change. Same tools, but to a brief we set together and with the purpose you're trying to achieve.

Peer learning facilitation

The forms this can take

Peer learning

Community of practice

A group of people in similar roles learning together through live challenges in their work over time.

Collaborations

Cross-sector learning

People working on similar issues from different sectors, learning to develop more holistic approaches.

Workshops

Team vision & strategy

A facilitated session/series to think together and shape a shared direction, using creativity.

Programmes

Learning programme / training

A designed programme or training series to build capability and shared practice over time.

It's most valuable alongside change. As Action Learning's founder Reg Revans put it, for change to succeed the rate of learning must keep pace with it — learning ≥ change — so peer learning works especially well where formal training is too short-term or too content-focused to be relevant.
